5/10/14
After leaving the Glaze relatives at 6:20 p.m. we pressed on
to Memphis, TN and arrived there at 10:00 p.m.
5/11/14
We left Memphis at 8:30 a.m. and headed to Ozark, Missouri
via a diagonal path through Arkansas and Missouri. We did not realize that we would be driving
through the Ozark Mountains, so that slowed our travel time, but the views were
beautiful. We bought gas in Ava, Missouri
for $3.20 per gallon and that was the cheapest we have seen thus far. We ate at the famous Lambert’s restaurant (the
home of throwed hot rolls) in Ozark.
(The servers come though the restaurant and hurl hot rolls across the
restaurant into the hands of eager patrons.
We ate at the Lambert’s in Sikeston, MO last year and could not resist
stopping here.) We arrived at our hotel
in Kansas City, MO at 6:30 p.m. The news
reported that there had been numerous tornadoes in the area and a local school
had been destroyed.

We left the hotel at 7:40 a.m. and drove all day in the
rain. We passed through lots of farm
land and many of the fields had deep standing water in them. Some of the water was deep enough to come to
the top of the fence posts. The further
north we traveled, the colder it became.
By the time we arrived in Fargo, North Dakota at 5:45 p.m. it was still raining, and
the temperature outside was 42 degrees with a wind chill factor of 30
degrees. We were definitely underdressed
in our Florida clothes.
Fargo is a lovely, clean town and the largest city in the
state with a population of approximately 110,000. They have a low crime rate and low
unemployment. There were numerous
shopping areas and evidence of much home/apartment construction. We are staying at a hotel adjacent to the
North Dakota State University which has a large research and technical park as
well as a large agricultural research station.
It is also home to the Fargodome
which will be hosting Paul McCartney in the near future.
